Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson will officially be doing two more comic book movies. He was in the talks for playing Hercules in Brett Ratner’s film adaption of Steve Moore’s graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian Wars. Today It was announced that it’s official and he will be playing the role of the demi-god. Shooting will begin somewhere in October in New Zealand.
In addition to the role of a demi-god, The Rock has signed on to star in an action thriller film called Ciudad, it’s an upcoming Oni Press graphic novel from Joe and Anthony Russo, who will also be directing the film with the script being written by Joe. The plot is basically about The Rock as a black market mercenary who’s hired by a Brazilian drug lord to rescue his kidnapped daughter.
This is a bit different for the Russo Brothers since they’ve done work like Community and Arrested Development. They said “Exploring genre has always been a driving motivation for us as filmmakers. This movie is the culmination of a long time ambition to bring our sensibilities to an action thriller.”
It seems like The Rock won’t have much time to relax with his busy schedule since, Journey 2 is out in theatres, GI Joe: Retaliation will be coming out soon this summer and he has a main event match at Wrestlemania against John Cena. I’m glad to see The Rock in more films, since he’s a literal bad ass.
