Bridgit Mendler just released her first single, Ready or Not, which comes off of her first album, Hello My Name Is… which will be released on October 22. Mendler, 19, is the latest Disney star to produce for Hollywood Records.
Of the song, Mendler says, “It’s a fun song about a girl who is feeling like she has been the wallflower her whole life and she wants to go out there and take charge. It has the romantic element of her going for the guy rather than waiting for the world to come to her. I wrote it with some great writers and producers. We wrote most of the album together.”
The song is the next, Call Me Maybe, a guilty pleasure song that you hate to love after it gets stuck in your head for days on end. It features funny little lines such as, “You’ll be my William , I’ll be your Kate living like a fairytale” but it also has the eye-rollers that are typical of Disney prodigies such as “now I’m like a bee and I’m hunting for the honey” and “I like your face, do you like my song?”
She adds about her first music endeavor, “This album is really special because it is my original music. I wrote on every song, (but) I couldn’t do it without the other writers.” While music is her “passion,” she admits that she is not the best dancer and says that she needs to get “comfortable watching her performances” because she “can’t just stand there and sing those hip-hop words.”
