Disney Starlet And New Mom Hilary Duff Shows Off New Tattoo

It’s hard to imagine a world in which tattoos are viewed as immoral marks of sin upon the flesh. Celebrities like Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, and Selena Gomez get tattoos like they’re candy, and new mom Hilary Duff has jumped on the wagon. We showed you Justin Bieber’s new owl tattoo earlier today, and Hilary seems to enjoy the winged style too–her tattoo artist tweeted a photo of his work: a small bird in flight with the words “stand by me” below. The bird is old fashioned and demure looking, unlike Justin’s which is more cartooney. (It reminds me of the owl Archimedes from the Disney animated movie The Sword in the Stone!)

So when did it become the norm for good girls to get tattoos? I think it’s a terrific freedom of expression, but a big commitment too. Besides the initial care a new tattoo takes, it is something that will last a life time. In fact, if you think about the fact that all of your cells die and are ‘reborn’ every 7 years, you could say that a ten-year-old tattoo is the only real part of you! And, unless you decide to get the uber-painful laser removal, it’s true.

Hilary is such a traditional and classy woman, I’m sort of surprised she decided to get inked. She has always been outspoken about her religious and political values, but she seems to recognize that, no matter what she believes in, she has to make decisions that are right for her and her family. No word yet on what the tattoo means (besides the obvious “stand by me” as a commitment to someone), but I am guessing its an homage to baby Luca, who just had his 7-month birthday! We love a devoted mama more than anything else, and baby tattoos are really hot right now. Tia Mowry, star of Sister Sister who currently shares a reality show on Style Network with her twin Tamera Mowry, just got a tattoo that reads “Cree” on her ribs–her son’s name.

Is this trend here to stay? What do you think these celebs will look like ten years down the line? Full of regrets and bandages from the laser removal, or happy and healthy, proud of their ink? Would you ever get a tattoo in honor of someone else, or do you prefer to keep it more personal? Let us know your take on it!
