Achieving the perfect balance of super-comfy casual yet trim and cute clothing mashes is hard. We have all suffered from high water pants, straight leg cuts that should have been thinner or wider, frumpy sweaters–and yet we keep trying. While in London promoting her upcoming album Red and attending the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards, country star Taylor Swift took some time to shop with her mom Andrea Swift. As always, she looked perfectly dressed for the occassion, sporting cat-face loafers, navy polka dot Seven For All Mankind trousers, a maroon sweater, and mustard cardigan. She topped off the look with a string of pearls, a cross body leather tote, Ray Ban shades, and a latte from Starbucks.
So how can one emulate the look? She is both put together and casual, stylish but not obnoxious, classic but allowing free movement. I think the beauty is in the details–check out her shoes! They look like plain loafers, but actually have a tiny cat on the top of each. She also had a sweater with a bit of detail around the neckline, giving the piece a layered look. Her oversized cardigan is functional in a contrasting color. Her only loud piece is the pants, which are navy with small white polka dots. When wearing patterns, make sure to keep it simple. By balancing the outfit with a plain, color block top, Taylor comes off as funky and trendy, not loud and unkempt!
How do you do patterns? I love the new trend in denim–we all have plain sweaters that need a bit of dressing up, and picking up a boot cut or skinny leg jean with an unexpected twist does the job! Do you like Taylor’s style? It certainly fits with her new Jackie O classic image–all clean lines and classic pieces. Taylor’s new album Red comes out in three weeks–will you be picking it up?
