There is a big difference between American and British pop stars. It really all comes down to image. I feel like our stars here try to be good role models, really proper and tween friendly, while those in the UK are more prepster gone bad boy. Take Harry Styles of One Direction, for instance. He’s covering this week’s issue of the British magazine OK!, and in it he gets quite personal and PG-13! His cover story is all about his first time having sex, and it was with a friend’s mother! As if that weren’t bad enough, he confesses: “I was scared I got the girl pregnant. And that was despite the fact we were safe. Luckily, we were fine.”
Consider this: here, its all but impossible to get a figure like Justin Bieber or Taylor Swift (both legal adults, both have had serious relationships!) to come out as sexually active. We’re all so dainty and not-so-discreet. I think it’s great that Harry is willing to talk about these real life issues. And it isn’t all a publicity stunt, the young star has a real message to send to the fans: “I would never risk not wearing a condom, it’s too much of a risk. If you’re not ready for a child, then don’t risk it.” Of course, I think we should add that condoms also protect against STIs, STDs, and HIV/AIDS, so make sure that you and your partner get checked before skipping the rubbers!
Sorry for the quick parental advice! But it’s just smart! What do you think of Harry’s very honest interview? The magazine is out now, so pick it up and real all the good bits. Do you think celebs should be more private about things of this sort, or is honest communication the order of the day?
