Dry hair is caused by several things such as heredity, age, diet and external factors. Heredity is something that can’t be controlled. If your parents have dry hair, you most likely will too. External factors that contribute to dry hair include using the wrong shampoo and conditioner for your hair type, too much sun and chlorine.
Avocado is great for helping add moisturize dry and damaged hair because of the oils and proteins it contains. In a bowl, mash up an avocado and mix in 5-6 drops of peppermint essential oil. Two of the best ingredients for dry hair are pumpkin and honey. Pumpkin has some great moisturizing benefits because of ingredients like zinc, potassium, beta-carotene, Vitamin A and Vitamin C. Honey is a natural humectant. Combine a cup of canned pumpkin with 2 tablespoons of honey. Apply the mixture to your hair and wear a shower cap so the mask stays in place. Let it set for 20 minutes and rinse with warm water.
Coconut oil is another item that is great for dry hair. Coconut oil is heavy so it is ideal for getting deep into the shaft of your hair. Add some coconut oil to the ends of your hair when it is damp. In the event that the oil is hard, just liquefy it in the microwave first.
