
Growing up in a world where skinny is in can be very pressuring on young girls to always look their best. Let me be the first to tell you that although skinny can be flattering in certain circumstances, it isn’t necessarily the most flattering on all body types. Also keep in mind there is a difference between being skinny and being in shape (and everyone’s “shape” is different!).
In high school, I was always the “thick” friend. I wasn’t fat, but I wasn’t nearly as skinny as most of my girlfriends. It was at times embarrassing but it took me until being older to realize that all along I was just as attractive as they were. I learned that although I was in a bigger pant size, I was still in shape. After speaking to a doctor, I learned that I was in fact big boned. Although I was short and everyone said I should be around 100 pounds, my body was never designed to be 100 pounds. Had I ever tried to get down to that weight even while in my teenage years it would have been highly unhealthy for me!
