First off I have to say that the voice acting was absolutely amazing, Fullmetal Alchemist is in my opinion one of FUNimations best dubs. All the characters were done very well, the voices suited the characters perfectly, the new and of course the ones we already love and know.
What really had me skeptical in the beginning was how different the animation was compared the anime series of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, I felt I had a more relaxed looking style. But in the end I actually found it great; it looked really smooth especially when it came to the action scenes.
Now this movie had its fair share of moments filled with dialogue and action, it also had some very comedic moments, so in all honesty I didn’t get bored with the move at any time. Just like the original series the movie had so much raw emotions, which is why I love Fullmetal Alchemist so much. The action scenes were just incredible! Along with the new animations it just went together amazingly! But there was one thing way different than the original series, there was a lot of blood and several deaths seriously, in every battle there were people dying.
The music as well was just awesome! At every moment the music just enhanced the scenes so much, they made everything much more exciting. They really added much more to the emotions and actions throughout the film and I must say that the songs played at the beginning and at the credits of movie were also great.
There was one major problem in this film that actually had me pretty disappointed and it was the lack of Roy Mustang. Seriously, he’s in the movie but when he’s about to fight and such none of it is even shown. It’s all practically done off screen, which really made me upset. Mustang is a popular character in the series and I also believe other fans would be feeling the same way. Same with the others like Hawkeye and Winry, they really didn’t seem important to have in the film and could of easily not have been in it in general.
The one thing this movie had that just blew my mind were the twists, so much you thought you knew and had figured out just turns around and changes completely. It really had me hooked when watching; especially the last one, it really just surprises the hell out of you.
So in the end this movie is something I’d actually see again, especially in theatres it made the whole experience much better! Even though it’s only playing in select theatres I say go for it if you’re a fan of the series, you’ll definitely enjoy it as I did. Just knowing that this could actually be the last time we see Fullmetal Alchemist makes me quite sad, the manga is over and the anime as well. So as one fan to other fans, I highly recommend you take the chance to see what might be the last Fullmetal Alchemist movie. Also I must mention, that yes, when this comes out for DVD I’m going to buy it.
